SpaceX launches first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to orbit the Earth
Falcon 1 Flight 4 soars into space from its launch pad in the Kwajalein Atoll in the Central Pacific. The Falcon 1 is the first launch vehicle of the 21st Century and became the first privately-developed liquid fuel rocket to orbit the Earth. Former Fredericksburg High School student Josh Jung is head of propulsion R&D for SpaceX.
